![]() The friend group that took up page space last volume is handled well here with them getting full treatment and time given to them. Its also very apparent this is a trilogy now with this book coming off a bit as a lead in to the penultimate finale of the trilogy. Its a bit disappointing since the message in the first volume was great and I was hoping we'd another great message here but instead we get superhero fare. Its not bad but compared to the message I got out of the previous one this one feels like a more standard superhero tale. While not as great as the first volume still worth its salt if you liked the first volume. I didn't find the coloring to be overdone like in a lot of modern comics.įour out of five stars. Andie Tong's art is a good fusion of '90s Tom Grummett and some manga influence. The writing is crisp and appropriate for a YA audience. It makes the book feel more like it's in some version of the DC universe than the previous book did. I also thought it was cool that Hal Jordan was mentioned and Kyle Rayner makes an appearance. I like that Tai's grandma knew Superman in her Green Lantern identity. The theme of family continues to run through the series. Good thing, since Xander comes off as a young John Byrne-era Lex Luthor. This is more about Tai's growth as a character and the importance of trust. Tai is still learning the ropes and his team-up with Iris, aka Kid Flash, hearkens back to Green Lantern-Flash team-ups of old. It captures the essence of the DCU without being beholden to 60+ years of continuity. Sure, I'm about 30 years past the use-by date for this but it reminds me of the recent Scooby Doo Team-Up series. ![]() I thought Green Lantern Legacy, the previous entry in this series, was great so I was dying to pick this up.Īs with the last book, I dug this quite a bit. Its one of those comics which will make you fall in love with the world of green lantern and all but also with the supporting cast here and the ending setting up the big three-quel was amazing and I am so excited to read it!!Īs Tai Pham eases into his role as Earth's Green Lantern, he goes up against a serial arsonist and makes a new friend, Kid Flash! Its a solid read and I like how fast-paced it is and I love the portrayal of Irey and how confident she is, plus the expanded role of Tommy and Serena in here, really makes you feel they have become a unit and the flashbacks to his grand-mother's time as GL and her teaming up with JL which was fun and the budding friendship there! So this picks up from last volume but this time teams Tai with Irey (KF) and fun twists with DC history here regarding Flashes and GL here but the main story here being some arsonist group called "Scorched earth" are targeting Xander, whose now running for Mayor of Coast city and so can these two and their friends save Xander plus some heist stuff in the middle while Tai has to train with John and other members of GLC? PLus Xander's real plans.
